Operations Research (O.R.) is the discipline of applying advanced analytical methods to help make better decisions. By using techniques such as mathematical modeling to analyze complex situations, operations research gives executives and managers at all levels the power to make more effective decisions and build more productive systems based on the intelligent use of data, the consideration of all available options, and the analysis of risk. This power relies on decision tools (including optimization, statistics, forecasting, and probabilistic analysis) developed over the past 60 years.
Business analytics (BA) refers to the skills, technologies, applications and practices for continuous iterative exploration and investigation of past business performance to gain insight and drive business planning. Business analytics focuses on developing new insights and understanding of business performance based on data and statistical methods.
